Jacqueline Wigfall is new to SPA and new to Minnesota, but she’s excited about her first Harkness discussion and trying plant-based restaurants. Wigfall comes to Minnesota from North Carolina, where she published articles for an organization that supports students in medical school. Previously Wigfall had taught writing at pre-med summer camp at Duke University. She is well versed in stylistic writing and plans to use her previous writing and teaching experience to support students in figuring out who they are as people and as writers. When asked why she chose SPA, Wigfall said, “I would say that it’s because it’s in Minnesota, and I’m a big Prince fan. My family, my siblings are big Prince fans, so they are super jealous that I am here. […] When I was in high school, it was the ‘80s, so it was Duran Duran, Prince, and a few other people.”

In reality, it was the Harkness method that drew her to SPA. “When I saw the video of that table, and everyone seated, it took me back to my undergraduate years, and I was like, ‘I want to go back there.”

Outside of school, she’s spending time discovering St. Paul through public transportation. She walks a lot and isn’t afraid to admit that she’s gotten on the wrong bus a few times. Her favorite restaurant is J. Selby, a plant-based restaurant that serves American classics. Wigfall said, “I haven’t been, but I ordered and got delivery from there for my birthday because I wanted something vegan but special, and it did not disappoint.”

Wigfall is teaching American Literature and Literature of Migration this semester. She is excited to help students discover who they want to be and how they want to express themselves through writing.
